Kirkandrews-on-Eden WI December 8th 2020 was the date of the 70th birthday of our WI and plans to mark this occasion were underway when the country felt the impact of Coronavirus. There were no WI meetings after March and although we had hopes that life might soon return to normal this was not to be. However, President Kathleen Bowron and members of the Committee organised “Afternoon Tea” boxes which were delivered to homes and all the members and past members sat down at 3.30 on the day to enjoy the contents with a cup of tea. Although we could not be together to celebrate this occasion we were in each other’s thoughts. Included with the box was an intricate and delicate arrangement of cold porcelain flowers and leaves as an extra surprise. All who received boxes were delighted and our thanks go to Kathleen for co-ordinating this event. Founder members Sadie Bell and Margaret Roe were given certificates by Glynis to mark 70 years of WI membership. They have been loyal and hardworking members for all this time. Unfortunately our Annual General Meeting could not be held because of the restrictions but copies of the reports which would have been presented at the AGM were also circulated. The Mrs Bird Rose Bowl for the highest number of competition points was won, jointly, by Judith Swinsco and Kathleen Bowron and second was Margaret McKenna. All were given gifts. We are all looking forward to when we can meet again in Beaumont Parish Hall and send best wishes for Christmas and the New Year to all WI members. [+ go back...] |
