Grinsdale Church and Churchyard    1 March, 2018

The sale of St Kentigern's Church, together with the older part of the Churchyard and land down to the river side is expected to be completed soon.

The area of Churchyard in current use will remain available for burials and general public access, and a new gateway is being created in the churchyard wall to allow for this.

A hedge is being planted to divide the Churchyard bewteen the publicarea and thst which goes with the property and several gravestones have been relocated to permit access by equipment in the event of future burials.

The Garden of Remembrance, which was near the East end of the Church building, has been re-sited in the North-east corner of the retained area and a Memorial Stone is to be erected which will record the names of those whose ashes have been intered there.

The pews from within the Church have been sold and the money received will be reserved to meet future maintenance costs of the retained Churchyard.

It us intended that one of the choir stalls will be adapted for use as a seat and placed near the new Garden of remembrance.

The stone font, which would otherwise have had to be destroyed, has been accepted by, and moved to the Rose Castle Foundation. Dalston.

This will hopefully bring to a satisfactory conclusion the long period of time since the Church ceased to be used for public services.
